Photodynamic Therapy
The treatment involves the application of a photosensitizing agent (Metvix) which, when activated by a specific wavelength of light, produces a form of oxygen that destroys abnormal cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed. This treatment is especially helpful in treating actinic keratoses (AK), which is often unseen below the skin’s surface. The downtime is quite minimal with PDT treatments, presenting as mild redness, flaking and darkening of skin lesions, which slough away after 7-10 days. These qualities, along with the visible benefits of correcting sun damage and acne, make Photodynamic Therapy an appealing solution for preserving the health and beauty of the skin after 2 sessions and yearly maintenance as required.
